Every store front needs a sign. That is a given. But why? Aside from letting passersby know what business is in that location, what is the purpose of the sign? Whether people are walking or driving down the street, they are amidst chaos. There are a multitude of distractions that surround people on the street and the job of an exterior sign on a business is to stand out and be noticeable in spite of those distractions. In other words, the sign must attract the eye easily. The most common type of lighted storefront sign is the channel letter sign.
The main sign on the front of the store must be well designed with the business name, logo, and great graphics. It must be visually appealing so that it will attract attention. It is even more critical that it be bright and visible at night as this is when the sign is most effective. It must also conform to local city codes and sometimes lease restrictions. Three common types of channel letters are standard, reverse and open. The standard channel letters have colored Plexiglas over neon in an aluminum or steel frame. Our aluminum construction is preferred, although it is slightly more expensive, because it never rusts and its lightweight makes it easier for installation.
Reverse channel letters are often called Halo-lit signs as the lighting comes from behind letters that have a metal front, clear back and are mounted away from the surface of the building. By day, the signage can easily be seen and by night, the signage comes to life.
The open channel letters aren't really open at all. These signs are manufactured much like the standard channel letter signs but utilize clear Plexiglas to expose the raw materials of the sign.
Exterior signage is more than simply a means to tell people you are there. It is a way to establish your brand, market to the public, and give your establishment a silent voice. The International Sign Association states that 49% of an establishment’s business comes from people who see the exterior sign and come. Even though the sign might seem expensive having a well designed sign that has the maximum possible impact can insure the success of your business.
